  • H.R. 758 (Nunes) – National Monument Designation Transparency & Accountability Act This bill would requires the President to notify Congress before designating monuments and nullify any declaration if it is not approved by Congress within two years after a Designation. House Committee on Natural Resources: Referred to the Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests and Public Lands.
 
  • H.R. 817 (Herger)- This bill would amend the Antiquities Act of 1906 by striking “in his discretion to declare by public proclamation” and inserting “ to declare subject by an Act of  Congress” thus taking away the President’s authority under the Act to declare large tracts of land as a National Monument. This bill has been referred to the Natural Resources Committee.
 
  • S. 122- National Monument Act of 2011( Sen. Vitter )    Bill was read twice and referred to Committee on Energy & Natural Resources. This bill would require National Monuments to receive Congressional Approval.  This bill would also restrict the Sec. of Interior from prohibiting public use of a national monument until the expiration of an appropriate review period providing for public input and congressional approval.
 
  • H.R. 302 (Foxx)-Preserve Land Freedom for Americans Act of 2011- This bill would require State approval of a National Monument prior to designation of a monument on federal land within the state.  This bill is in the House Committee on Natural Resources: Referred to the Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests and Public Lands
