The Board has completed its officer and committee assignments for 2005. Supervisor LaVada Erickson was elected as Chair of the Board of Supervisors and I was elected to serve as Vice-Chair. My committee assignments follow.

In the natural resources/environment area: County delegate to the federal Klamath River Fisheries Task Force and the Klamath Province Advisory Committee; named as a replacement member in the government category for future appointment by the Secretary of Agriculture to the Siskiyou County Resource Advisory Committee (RAC); Board liaison to the Siskiyou County Fire Safe Council; alternate to the Air Pollution Control District and the Siskiyou County Regional Solid Waste Joint Powers Authority.

In the health and social services area: County delegate to the Community Services Council and member of the County Systems of Care sub-committee; Board representative to First 5 Siskiyou; delegate to the Medical Advisory Committee; co-delegate to the Behavioral Health Service Board;  County delegate to the California State Association of Counties for the Housing, Land and Transportation Committee, as well as the Health and Human Services Committee; and member of the Siskiyou County Health Partnership, serving on the substance abuse sub-committee.

In the emergency services area: alternate delegate to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Board; attendee at Siskiyou County Fire Chief’s Association meetings and member of sub-committee on required countywide conversion to narrow band radio. I am also working on helping to organize the new Citizens Corp Council to facilitate Citizen Emergency Response Training (CERT.)  

In the economic development Area: Director of the Siskiyou County Economic Development Council; and alternate to the Superior California Economic Development District.

In the government area: Delegate to the Siskiyou Association of Government Agencies (SAGE);alternate to the Local Transportation Commission; and alternate to the Northern California Supervisors Association.

All Supervisors serve as: Director to the Siskiyou County Flood Control and Water Conservation District; Siskiyou County Air Pollution Control District; Siskiyou Power Authority; In Home Supportive Services (IHSS) Public Authority; North State Water Association; and Director of County Service Areas three and five.

I am also involved in the Quartz Valley Reservation Coalition of Understanding and the Scott Valley Bluegrass Team; attend various Chambers of Commerce, Neighborhood Watch Group; and Family Resource Center Network meetings;  I am involved in strategic planning for the Local Childcare Planning Council. In addition, I continue to be involved in farming and ranching issues such as the coho incidental take permit (ITP); watermaster services; Scott River Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) technical advisory groups; biomass and small diameter tree utilization; and the comment team on the Conservations Implementation Program (CIP.) I do try and get around to various meetings in my communities throughout the year and keep people informed through this column.

District 5 includes the 19 communities of KRCE (N. Klamath portion); Hornbrook; Hilt; Klamath River; Horse Creek; Scott Bar; Seiad Valley; Happy Camp; Somes Bar; Forks of Salmon; Sawyers Bar; Cecilville; Callahan; Etna; Greenview; QuartzValley - Mugginsville; Fort Jones; Greenhorn and Hawkinsville
