If you are an artist, there are several organizations that may be of interest to you. “The Marble Rim Gallery,” (formerly the Scott Valley Creative Arts Guild,) operates on Main Street in Fort Jones as an artist’s cooperative. Founded in 1991, it is also the current home of the Scott Valley Tourist Information Center. The gallery is a place for members to display their works for sale. The art includes paintings, drawings, photography, ceramics, jewelry, textile and wearable art. Every month, one of the artists is selected to be featured in a special display. There are currently about 27 members.

Memberships run from $25 for an individual; $30 for a family of two; $35 for two or more persons in the same household. The gallery gets a commission of 25% for every item sold. As a cooperative, the artist agrees to man the shop for one day a month or two half day shifts.

The Gallery is currently conducting a fundraiser with donated works of art. For more information, please contact Diana Callahan at 467-3734.

Founded in 2003, the Klamath Knot Arts Council (KKAC) is a regional Klamath River effort to promote development of the arts through programs, projects and presentations. (A “knot” is a geographic area made up of diverse minerals, terrain, weather and life forms. Seven knots exist in North America.)  www.klamathknotarts.com Organized as a non-profit, the Council seeks to build the Klamath region economically, educationally and culturally.

The home of the KKAC is currently the gallery with the salmon mural painted on its walls, next to the giant Big Foot statue in Happy Camp. The gallery is alive with activities by artists of all ages. Future vision includes art lectures, murals, publications; live music, dance and theatrical performances; and a residency programs to attract artists from around the world to retreats and study.

If I recall correctly, there are currently more than 60 members. Memberships range from $15 for a student or senior; $20 for an individual; $35 for a family; $100 for a Friend and more than $100 for a Patron.
