Hate Speech vs. Hate Art

If James Madison were alive now he would defend fewer rights for “hate art” than for “hate speech” – the reverse of modern political correctness. Both in America and in Russia, secularists are eager to flaunt anti-Christian images.  America needs to recover its original understanding of liberty – and Russia needs to recover its civilization.

Dear Friends,

Imagine a museum facing a new policy. A curator of anti-religious paintings would be informed that he is entirely free to display any captions – that is, there would be no restrictions on his words. In contrast, the public display of blasphemous or racist non-verbal images would face the possibility of a lawsuit. Actually this distinction is not new. America’s First Amendment specifically denied to Congress any power of “abridging the freedom of speech,” but it made no mention of the term “art.”
