Formerly centered in the San Francisco
area, the artist now lives and continues his work and development as a fine
artist in the countryside near Etna, a little town nestled in the mountains
of Northern California. Here he has established a fine studio and an environment
well suited to the advancement of the rendering of his vista-scale, intricately
detailed paintings designed to capture and delight the souls of those with
vast spiritual accumulations. For to these the images of Paul Jon Watson
are images from home. The artist's work has been inspired by the life and
art of Russian painter Nicholas Konstantin Roerich and by Professor Roerich's
Teacher, the nineteenth century Russian artist, Master Kiunji. The artist's
personal mentor, artist and art entrepreneur, Ralph Harris Houston, advised
him to avoid political statements and ego expressionism in art and to concentrate
on beauty. "Art is the center of my universe, for Art is Truth and Truth
is the Absolute. A human being is an artist and is measured by his or her
creations. I derive the greatest satisfaction from successfully triggering
an inspirational resonance within the spiritual core of the viewer through
beauty and lofty symbolic associations. The viewer I regard as both my principal
palette and canvas. The painting must work there."
