Of all human cultures
one stands apart as the most artistically refined and successfully stylized.
Its artifacts and architecture are so timeless they could blend comfortably
with most contemporary venues. But within all its surviving antiquities
so very many of us hear the deep and somehow familiar hum of ancient mysteries,
Egyptian mysteries. The gorgeous pantheons of gods and goddesses, powers
and magical principalities survive agelessly through the agency of mankind's
most beautiful and living language of symbolic art. It is perhaps ironic
that the art and culture of a people who so earnestly and thoroughly dedicated
themselves to the after death state simply refuses to die.
