Scott Valley is an historic ranching and farming area. Occasionally, travellers may encounter livestock in "open range" situations on back country roads. Stop and let them pass by, if possible, before proceeding. Large hay trucks make wide turns. Watch that you don't pull into the inner lane when they are turning. Farmers do slowly move heavy equipment on the road. Logging and other trucks may move slowly up steep slopes. Please be patient! Oh- and if a stranger waves to you as you pass by - that's just our normal custom of welcome and howdy. Just wave back!
