EDITORIAL

         

        The River Voice, local writers with a unique, often un-heard,  perspective.  Over two dozen current and former residents have produced a variety of writing, with the heart of our rivers in mind.
          We are what our writers make us.  Our direction will be determined by our readers voices.  This issue features articles on the state of Salmon River Fisheries; John Salter writes on the our relationship to fire in the second of a three part series; Salm Stroich writes about the new invasion of recreational mining on the Salmon; Kathleen Jarschke-Schultze speaks to our special alternative energy needs; the Karuk Tribe's recycling program is examined by Angela Allgier Jim Henderson presents a timely look at the Klamath River dams relicensing.  Meet Corinne McLaughlin, co-founder of the Sirius Community, in Massachusetts, as she explores the "Human Yearning for Community".  Learn why the sale of "the Rosemary Butte land" has thoughts on community occupying a good deal of the minds of folks living on the Rivers in "From the Mouth of the River".  Will Harling, Petey Brucker, Mark DuPont and more.

          The River Voice, a literary magazine features stories, poems, photographs and art by the folks who live here, or still live here in their hearts. 
       In the short stories, Dara Soto writes, "Mother Salmon in Dillon Creek"; Larry Cressey writes of the colorful beginning to his Salmon River years in, "Jessie James"; T Creek takes on a most unusual "Trail Under Bloomer Falls"; you'll go on a fishing expedition with Peter Sturges as he writes about Dick Hailey; Tesilya Hanauer, Suzanne Jennings, Kathleen Jarschke-Schultze and more!  Poetry featuring Cedar Seeger, Allegra Brucker, Miles Richardson and Afro YT.
       Recipes from the river greatest cooks.  We say good by to some friends and give you Links to local interests and information.

           The River Voice  features local Rivers residents' unique commercial efforts. 

          You are invited to participate! 

          There will be two other issues of The River Voice this year.  We are attempting to find the funding for a simultaneous hard copy edition of selected future issues.  We'd like to invite the writer in all of you to write your stories and poems, of the rivers and mountains around the mouth of the Salmon River.  It has been suggested we have a topic for each issue, that people could write about. 

          Write your articles in MS Word, please, attach to an email, or copy into an email text, or send a floppy.
