Marl began studying the guitar in 1967 at age twelve. He spent many an hour practicing on his 3/4-size, Spanish guitar his parents bought for him at Zody's for $7.99. While the other family members watched television (not that there's anything wrong with that), Marl progressed in his knowledge of and love for the guitar.
Marl studied under classical guitarist Vincenzo Macaluso at The Jose Oribe Guitar Studio in Inglewood, California (since moved to Vista, California). Mr. Macaluso, a Jazz guitarist turned-Classical, was very influential in helping Marl expand his repertoire and refine his technique. See Vincenco's CD entitled: 10 String Guitar Spectacular.
During a three and-a-half year period more recently, Marl continued his study of the guitar with Jazz and Blues guitarist Mickey Maga. Mickey's style and technique emphasized performing live music. As the leader of a four-piece band, he focused primarily on jazz hits of the '30s, '40s and '50s and bossa nova. Marl also studied with Mark Huls at Rich Hunts Guitar in Escondido, California.
Marl lives in Etna (Partridge Pines area), Siskiyou County where he lives with his wife of 29 years. His desire is to continue to learn about, teach and play the classical guitar.
