Celebration in the Desert

acrylic on canvas

30" x 48"

Completed in the winter of 1999/2000, also called "Millenium Man", this piece was conceived as a celebration of human survival in the midst of folly, as well as human folly in the face of survival. It is a tribute to our modern history  (surprisingly prophetic of our even more recent history) as well as our modern mythological history, the boundaries of which have, in terms of the hold each has on our collective psyche, become blurred and indistinct.

The challenge here, was to keep it simple. ...Map the work with large flat areas of solid color, and depict the "Friendly H-Bomb Clouds" as benign and unreal. Texture, however, like reality, always has a way of creeping in.
