MOSAIC                CORA BROWNELL - THE ARTISTS at the MARBLE RIM GALLERY

CREATIONS BY CORA

For me, art is an expression of relationships. The work of art tells a story about me the artist, my experience of the world around me, and how I choose to tell about it. I am fascinated to know that the arts are, and have always bee, a part of our human nature, and they tell us about ourselves at that particular time and place through the unique view of the artist. The work then takes on its own life, having meaning in the eyes of the beholder, sometimes carrying on throughout histor.

I was always a painter, catching shapes, lines, and colors, pushing the paint, pencil or ink as if the story flowed through my fingers onto the paper or canvas. Then I discovered digital imagery. Through my camera I take in the world around me. I capture the story that is told to me the moment I click the shutter and move it into artistic expression. Lately, I have enjoyed the new three dimensional expression of ceramics and ceramic sculpture.

Artist's Statement: "Even though I have done many things throughout my life, serving as an administrator, nurse, teacher, manager, writer, mother, and so forth, I have moved through my experience of the world as an artist. I have done artwork since early childhood, and I enjoy it immensely - it nurtures my soul. I tell what I can in my work."

Cora Brownell graduated from UC Berkeley with one BA in Painting, and another BA in History of Art. She has worked professionally as a fine artist and illustrator. She works in a number of mediums, and currently displays ceramic sculpture and pottery, digital photography and imagery, and drawings and paintings at Marble Rim Gallery and various exhibits in Siskiyou County.
