EDITORIAL

The River Voice, local writers with a unique, often un-heard,  perspective.  Over two dozen current and former residents have produced a variety of writing, with the heart of our rivers in mind.
We are what our writers make us.  Our direction will be determined by our readers voices.  This issue features articles on the state of Salmon River Fisheries by Nat Pennington; John Salter writes on the our relationship to fire in the first of a three part series; Salm Stroich writes about the new invasion of recreational mining on the Salmon; Kathleen Jarschke-Schultze speaks to our special alternative energy needs; the Karuk Tribe's fuels product is explained by Harold TrippJim Henderson presents a timely look at the Klamath River dams relicensing.

The River Voice, a literary magazine to feature stories, poems, photographs and art by the folks who live here, or still live here in their hearts.  Sue Terence leads off the poetry section with Will Harling, Elsa Marley, Erica Terence, Tesilya Raven, Geba Greenberg and Chick N. Little, to mention only a few.
In the short stories, John Salter spins us a yarn about the goings on at the Beer Tree one summer long ago;  Creek takes us boatin' on a rainy day; I'm extremely honored to have Suzanne Jennings, taking us along on a wild ride with her son Gabe, as he pursues a second Olympic Games appearance this summer in Athens; and more.
Many of the children in both the Forks School and Junction School have articles; recipes and Sam Miller on anything would be worth the trip, this time on salsa.  We say good by to some friends and give you Links to local interests and information.

Future issues of The River Voice will feature local Rivers residents' unique commercial efforts.

          You are invited to participate!

There will be two other issues of The River Voice this year.  We are attempting to find the funding for a simultaneous hard copy edition of selected future issues.  We'd like to invite the writer in all of you to write your stories and poems, of the rivers and mountains around the mouth of the Salmon River.  It has been suggested we have a topic for each issue, that people could write about.

For the summer issue of The River Voice we'd like to hear your Klamath River and Salmon River Trail Stories, poems, photographs and art.  Real or imagined, funny or sad,  tell us all a story.  Write your articles in MS Word, please, attach to an email, or copy into an email text, or send a floppy.
