Salmon River Dream Flows
In 2001 and 2002, Junction School charted the stream flow of the Salmon Rivera Somes Bar, on a graph, and we've been doing it again since December 2003. Since we have been doing the different years on the same graph, we can compare the results. For instance, last year there was a huge storm from January 1st to 10th that caused the river to reach a flow of 14,000 cubic feet per second (or cfs). during the biggest storm in December high water only reached 6,000 cfs. An easier ay to think of it is like 14,000 shopping bags full of water going past a spot on the river in one second. That's a lot! If you would like to look at the daily flows of the rivers in our area go to http://www.dreamflows.com/realtime.html, click on California North Coast and scroll down to the river and spot you want.
