River Cookin'

Recipes

Here on the Salmon River
we know the importance of food.
We plan our feasts carefully.

We till our gardens early
sowing our seeds
on the edge of the last frost.
(At least we try to anyway)

This first turning of the earth
brings a sweat to dispel winter's lingering ghost,
rekindling our alliance with the fairies of Spring.

Anticipation grows with patient watering
as sunshine fills our tomatoes to bursting,"
tree branches bend with the weight of their fruit,
our pantries fill with soulful food.

A table is set out,
we lay down our offerings,
fresh rolls, exotic salads, marinated meats,
blackberry pies, raspberry bavarians
devilish chocolate cakes...
There always seems to be enough.

We come together to share this fod,
to share our music and ourselves,
to tell our stories
to weave the threads of commnity.

Here on the Salmon River
we know the importance of food.
We measure our ingredients carefully.
You can never have too much love.
