Juneau was whelped on August 11, 1994, in a repeat breeding that had proven very successful for Trieven Kennels. During her first two years of training she has proven to be extremely trainable, has a great nose, and is a natural pointer. Her first weekend afield (at 15 months) she held some picture perfect points on pheasants, and on the duck season opener she retrieved 52 out of 52 ducks knocked down in front of her. Her temperament has made her the perfect house dog, and her personality has made her my constant companion. For a lab she is a more athletic field trial version and weighs in at 70 pounds, but her square head and thick chest make her unmistakably labrador. Juneau was bred by Tom and Sue Ross of Oregon Retrievers in Medford, OR. (541)773-9690.
But Juneau's biggest claim to fame is her famous father, Hershey, who has single-handedly re-written the rule book for the Colorado Pheasant Forever Chapter. Competing first against the flushing division and then against the pointing dogs, Hershey put them all to shame by winning both divisions. His natural pointing and oustanding retrieving have made him shine as one of today's most sought after pointing lab studs. Hershey is one of a handful of Grand Master Pointing Labs recognized by the American Pointing Lab Association. Hershey's accomplishments are well documented, and several articles on him and pointing dogs in general are available upon request. Hershey is a very handsome 80 pounds and an upland game phenomenon. Juneau has a full brother who is following in the footsteps of his father Hershey. Grand Master Pointing Retriever Cajun of Black Forest MH is today's number one chocolate pointing lab stud. Both Cajun and father Hershey were bred by Black Forest Kennels (303)681-5227.
Fiona II
Litter ready for adoption Summer 2001 --
Fiona was whelped on January 1, 1998 in a breeding that was arranged by Silver Creek Kennels in Woodland, CA (Charles Tyson (530)795-2025 or ctyson@dcn.davis.ca.us). She was bred to have outstanding field trial potential. Fio can be described as an extremely intense retriever with a calm and loving personality. Fio is a great marker and travels through the field with speed and desire. She loves the water and enters in a way that leaves quite a wake behind her. She also has a great nose. Fio has a tall, muscular "field trial" build and weighs in a 65 pounds. She was raised as a house-dog and has a great personality.
But probably what makes Fio so special is her parents. Both parents carry the titles FC-AFC. Her father was FC-AFC Code Blue. "Cody" compiled 39 derby points and won both Qualifyings before the age of two, and earned both his FC and his AFC titles by 3½ years of age. With an impressive 18 Open wins and 8 Amateur wins, Cody has 199½ all age points. FC-AFC Rio Lago, Fio's mother, has an equally impressive performance record. She qualified for 5 Nationals by the age of 4½ and had her MH at 18 months. She also earned her AFC title by age 2½.
It is rare to have such an outstanding field trial background with such a great disposition and this is why Fio was chosen for our breeding program.
